Cobalt Glass Chippings A deep, ink-like blue with the kind of saturation that holds its own under floor lighting and daylight alike. Cobalt Glass Chippings are made for terrazzo work where the colour needs to do real visual work. The angular shapes catch light differently as the polished surface is viewed from different angles, so a finished floor reads as alive rather than uniform. And one practical thing sets them apart from many other coloured aggregates: cobalt glass doesn’t discolour with weathering. The blue you commission today is the blue you have on the floor years later. Where Cobalt Glass Chippings work The chippings are first and foremost a terrazzo aggregate, but they have applications anywhere a deep, durable blue is wanted in a fixed surface: Terrazzo flooring — used as a feature aggregate in residential, retail and commercial polished concrete and terrazzo finishes. Polished concrete and resin-bound surfaces where designers want a controlled hit of cobalt blue inside the polished finish. Memorial work as a bold contrast band or feature inset, particularly against white quartz or pale granite. Decorative borders and feature panels in residential and commercial landscape work. Mosaic and craft panels where the angular shapes catch the light differently from rounded aggregate. The look, the feel, the long-term advantage Cobalt is a famously durable pigment. Unlike some coloured aggregates that fade, oxidise or lose vibrancy over time, cobalt glass keeps its deep ink-blue tone through years of weather exposure, sun and standing water. That’s the headline reason it gets specified for terrazzo flooring — once it’s locked into the polished finish, the colour is genuinely fixed. The angular shape adds depth to a polished floor. As the slab is ground and polished, each chipping reveals a different facet, so the finished surface has a richer, more varied look than a finish made from rounded aggregate alone. Sizes, packaging and how much to order Available in two graded sizes — medium (6 to 11 mm) and large (11 to 20 mm) — and supplied in a wide range of pack sizes to suit project scale. FAQs What’s the difference between the medium and large sizes? Medium chippings (6–11 mm) read as a denser, more uniform field of colour in the finished terrazzo. Large chippings (11–20 mm) have more visible facets and reflect more light, producing a richer, more varied look. Many designers use a mix of both for textural depth. Will Cobalt Glass Chippings discolour over time? No. Unlike some other coloured aggregates, cobalt glass is notable for its colour stability. It holds its deep ink-blue tone under weather, sun, water and abrasion — which is why it’s a long-standing favourite for terrazzo floors. Can I use them outdoors in a polished concrete pour? Yes. The colour is fully stable under outdoor exposure, so the chippings work well in external polished concrete and resin-bound surfaces. They retain their cobalt tone through Irish weather without fading. Need a hand specifying for a terrazzo or polished concrete project? Call our team or use live chat.
