Description Indication Amaryl is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is used in conjunction with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control. It is not suitable for treating type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Dosage Starting Dose: Typically, the starting dose is 1 mg or 2 mg once daily. Maintenance Dose: The dose may be adjusted based on blood sugar response, with a maximum recommended dose of 8 mg once daily. Administration: It should be taken with breakfast or the first main meal of the day. Side Effects Common side effects include: Nausea Upset stomach Stomach pain Vomiting Diarrhea Dizziness Headache Tiredness Increased skin sensitivity to sunlight Itching or skin rash Serious side effects may include: Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) Allergic reactions (hives, difficulty breathing, swelling) Severe skin reactions (fever, sore throat, burning eyes, skin pain, red or purple skin rash with blistering and peeling. Precautions Allergies: Do not use if allergic to glimepiride or other sulfa drugs. Medical Condition: Inform your doctor if you have heart disease, liver or kidney disease or an enzyme deficiency Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Discuss with your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Amaryl may need to be discontinued before the due date. It is not recommended during breastfeeding. Hypoglycemia Risk: Be cautious of low blood sugar, especially if you skip meals, exercise excessively, drink alcohol, or are under stress.
